Sprites & Faries

Though colloquially the words are used interchangeably, scholars will quickly correct the misconception that sprites and fairies are the same. While each come in flavors corresponding to the four Cardinal Elements that is where the similarities end.
Fairies are small floating balls of pure magic which condense around a high concentration of their element. They can be vaguely humanoid-shaped and will interact with the world around them, though they function on an emotional level and do not appear to understand speech. Ephemeral, fairies flicker in and out of existence randomly, but they tend to live longer around larger magical sources.
Sprites, on the other hand, are physical beings with full sentience and societal structures. They consume food, but require magic to sustain themselves and thus live mostly around Magical Foci. They are the sources of many fairytales and legends. Some Sprites have been reported with wings. In Fire Sprite society these are almost always female, and are treated as royalty.
- Earth Sprites: Dryads who share a mystical connection to trees and plants. They reside in the Labyrinth Forest on the continent of Firyarndor
- Fire Sprites: Dragon-like with smatterings of scales on their leathery skin. They reside on the Sun Islands on the continent of Firyarndor
- Water Sprites: Rarely seen merpeople with the lower halves of fish.
- Air Sprites: The only kind not yet documented, known only through mysterious stories.
All Sprites are NPC races and may not be used by players.
All Faries are non-sentient and may not be used by players.
